Free Unit

The Fate Contract: Renewal event grants every player (Trailblaze Level 3+) a free choice of Gilgamesh or Archer — one, not both. The claim opened 2026-07-24 and stays available until shortly before Version 4.6 ends, currently listed as 2026-11-11. The bundle includes enough materials to raise your pick to Lv60, plus 600,000 credits. Check the banner schedule and do not let this lapse.

Basic Halfhearted Blow

Deals Lightning DMG equal to up to 110% of ATK to a single enemy. Early in a fight Gilgamesh automatically uses his Basic ATK at the start of his turn — the King does not lift a finger until his Interest is piqued. Once the Interest Piqued! state unlocks, this button disappears from his rotation entirely and he swaps to Skill-only mode.

110% of ATK (max)
Skill Gate of Babylon

Locked until the Interest Piqued! state activates — and it costs no Skill Points. Grants King's Acknowledgement, letting Gilgamesh ignore up to 33% of the target's DEF for 3 turns, then unleashes a Blast: up to 308% ATK to the main target and 154% ATK to adjacent enemies. Using the Skill clears his accumulated Interest, restarting the Interest cycle. A completely SP-neutral damage button that never taxes your team's economy.

308% main hit (max)
Ultimate Enuma Elish

The Sword of Rupture, at a cost of 360 Energy — the price of splitting heaven from earth. Deals up to 440% ATK Lightning DMG to all enemies, then fires 10 additional bounces at up to 110% ATK each against random targets. Against a lone boss every bounce lands on the same enemy, converging into roughly 1,400% ATK of single-target damage plus oversized Toughness damage. The single largest Ultimate price tag in the game, paid off through his A2 trace, King's Burden stacking, and energy-refund supports.

360 energy cost
Talent Amuse Me to the Fullest

When a teammate uses their Ultimate, Gilgamesh gains King's Burden, boosting his own Ultimate DMG by up to 44% for 3 turns. Whenever another ally takes an action, he gains 1 point of Interest — and every point of Interest grants him +10% SPD. When Interest first reaches 10 points, he enters the permanent Interest Piqued! state: from then on he can only use Gate of Babylon, which clears his Interest each cast and starts the SPD ramp again. This loop is why he needs no Speed on gear whatsoever.

+10% SPD per Interest
Talent 2 I Grant You Permission To Strike

Only active with Saber on the team. Attacks from Gilgamesh or Saber build a tally; at 8 tallied attacks, the two kings launch a Joint Follow-Up ATK against all enemies — up to 440% of Gilgamesh's ATK plus 660% of Saber's ATK, roughly 1,000% combined across two separate ATK pools. Gilgamesh then gains 3 Interest, Saber regenerates a fixed 120 Energy, and her next Ultimate is dramatically amplified — roughly doubled at high talent levels. This is the engine that makes the Kings Duo work.

8 attacks per joint FuA
Technique Enkidu

Creates a Special Dimension: enemies caught inside enter the King's Permission state and cease all actions — frozen in the chains of heaven. Attacking a bound enemy pulls every bound enemy into the same battle and deals 200% ATK Lightning DMG to all of them on entry, while Gilgamesh starts with 3 Interest already banked. One of the better overworld openers among Destruction units.

+3 interest on entry
The 360-Energy Economy
Enuma Elish costs 360 Energy — nearly triple a normal Ultimate — so his entire kit is a financing scheme. His A2 trace refunds him 30% of the energy every ally Ultimate consumes and grants bonus Interest on top; each ally Ultimate also stacks King's Burden for up to +44% Ultimate DMG. The more your team spends, the faster and harder the King fires. Pair him with big-Ultimate teammates and %-energy sustain like Huohuo, whose percentage-based refunds are worth far more on a 360 pool than on anyone else's.
Interest: Speed Without Speed
Gilgamesh sits at a lazy 97 base SPD and does not care. Every ally action feeds him Interest at +10% SPD per point, scaling up to +100% SPD at 10 stacks before Gate of Babylon cashes it out and the ramp restarts. The practical consequence is unique in the game: skip Speed boots and Speed substats entirely — three separate sources agree ATK% boots are correct. Every roll you would have spent on SPD goes into raw damage instead.
The Joint Follow-Up With Saber
With Saber fielded, every 8 attacks from the pair triggers an AoE Joint Follow-Up ATK that scales off both units' ATK simultaneously and refunds Saber a fixed 120 Energy while supercharging her next Ultimate. It counts as a follow-up attack, so it feeds FuA support ecosystems and stacks Ashblazing Grand Duke. No other support in the game accelerates Saber's Ultimate loop this way — it is the reason he is her best-in-slot partner.
The A6 Max-Energy Aura
His A6 trace, Hegemon's Strife, gives all allies +20% ATK and +20% CRIT DMG, then adds +1% ATK and +1% CRIT DMG per point of that ally's Max Energy above 140, capped at +100%/+100%. Ordinary 120–140 energy units get the flat floor; energy giants profit enormously — Saber-class allies with 240+ Max Energy pull huge value from the aura simply by existing. It is a passive, uptime-free buff that makes him a legitimate general support for any high-energy roster.

Enuma Elish is the payoff for the entire energy economy, so level it first. Both talents next — King's Burden scaling and the joint follow-up multipliers grow together. Gate of Babylon third; it eventually becomes his only button, but the talents feed it. Basic ATK last since it phases out of his rotation entirely. For traces, prioritize A6 > A2 > A4.

Best Light Cones

The headline here is how little Gilgamesh needs his signature: community calculations put it around 7% ahead of a free Herta-store cone. As a free unit, he is one of the cheapest S+ characters to finish in the entire game — do not feel pressured into the collab light cone banner.

#1
I Am As You Behold
His signature and best-in-slot at roughly ~107% of the free baseline. Grants ATK and Energy Regeneration Rate, boosts Ultimate DMG based on energy consumed — a cap tailored to his 360-cost Enuma Elish — and applies "King's Entertainment" on entry and Ultimate, buffing allies' CRIT DMG for 3 turns. Exact figures shift with superimposition and community sources disagree on the precise values, so treat the percentages as approximate. Also obtainable through the 200-pull collab light cone selector.
Signature
#2
A Thankless Coronation
A Thankless Coronation
Saber's signature, around ~104% relative performance if you happen to own a spare — realistically only relevant to accounts running multiple copies. In a Kings Duo team Saber keeps hers; treat this as a luxury hand-me-down, not a farming target.
5-star alt
#3
Thus Burns the Dawn
Thus Burns the Dawn
Another limited Destruction cone that lands at roughly ~101% — statistically indistinguishable from the free options below. Use it if it is sitting on your account doing nothing; do not chase it for him.
5-star alt
#4
A Trail of Bygone Blood
A Trail of Bygone Blood
The battle pass Destruction cone comes in at ~100.5% — effectively tied with the signature's free competition. If you already own it from the pass, it is a perfectly final answer for his slot.

#5
On the Fall of an Aeon
On the Fall of an Aeon
The recommended pick for most players: free from the Herta store, superimposable to S5 over time, and the 100% baseline the other cones are measured against. Its stacking ATK on attack suits his auto-Basic opening and Skill-spam endgame equally well. A free character with a free best-value cone — the whole package costs nothing.

Cavern Sets
1
Genius of Brilliant Stars
Genius of Brilliant Stars
His best cavern set and the 100% reference point. Quantum DMG is irrelevant to him, but the 4-piece's DEF-ignore stacks neatly on top of King's Acknowledgement to shred targets down. One caveat: in teams already saturated with DEF reduction — Mortenax Blade's Balefire Bind, or Gilgamesh's own E1 spreading DEF-ignore teamwide — you can overcap DEF shred and dilute the set's value. If your team runs heavy DEF-down, the alternatives below close the gap.
4-piece Best-in-Slot
2
The Ashblazing Grand Duke
The Ashblazing Grand Duke
Around ~98% — but only with Saber on the team. The Joint Follow-Up ATK is a genuine follow-up attack, so it triggers the 2-piece bonus and ramps the 4-piece ATK stacking. Without Saber, nothing in his kit counts as a follow-up and the set collapses; do not run it in standalone comps.
4-pieceSaber teams only
3
Scholar Lost in Erudition
Scholar Lost in Erudition
Roughly ~97% and the easiest substat hunt of the three, since half the roster farms this domain. CRIT Rate plus Skill and Ultimate DMG covers his entire damage profile — his whole kit is Skill and Ultimate once Interest Piqued! activates. A well-rolled Scholar set beats a badly rolled Genius set every time.

Planar Ornament Sets
1
Cosmic Life Sciences Institute
The new Version 4.4 planar set, and it might as well have his face on it: its DMG bonus scales with the wearer's Max Energy above 200. Gilgamesh's 360-energy pool is the largest surplus over that threshold of any Destruction unit, wringing more out of this set than nearly anyone else in the game. Farm it — it is his clear first choice.
2-piece Best-in-Slot New in 4.4
2
City of Converging Stars
The runner-up specifically for Saber pairings, where the Kings Duo's shared attack tally keeps its conditions rolling. If your Cosmic Life Sciences pieces roll poorly, this is the fallback in joint-attack comps.

3
Izumo Gensei and Takama Divine Realm
Izumo Gensei and Takama Divine Realm
The classic ATK-plus-CRIT-Rate ornament for dual-Destruction lineups. Since Saber is also a Destruction unit, the Kings Duo automatically satisfies its two-Destruction condition, making it a strong pick from relics you probably already own while you farm the newer sets.

Best Teams for Gilgamesh

Gilgamesh is a support DPS: he deals real damage of his own, but his value multiplies next to the right allies. The golden rule of his teambuilding is energy — teammates whose big Ultimates feed his A2 refunds, and %-energy sustain to bankroll two enormous energy pools at once. Prydwen rates him T0.5 across Memory of Chaos, Pure Fiction, and Apocalyptic Shadow as a Support DPS; Game8 lists him S+ overall.

The definitive Gilgamesh team. The joint follow-up loop feeds Saber fixed energy and doubled Ultimates while his A6 aura pours ATK and CRIT DMG into her oversized energy pool. Mortenax Blade amplifies everything and profits from the pair's attack frequency. Huohuo's percentage-based energy refunds are near-mandatory here — funding two 300-plus energy pools with flat regeneration simply does not work. One honest warning from Prydwen: this team is top-tier but hard to pilot and not auto-friendly; expect to drive it manually for best results.

Mortenax Blade's Charge loop loves the team's hit frequency. If you claimed Gilgamesh without owning Saber, this is your home.

Eidolons

Eidolons come only from his open-ended collab banner, "Of the Beginning, Enuma Elish" — collab units never enter the standard pool, and pity is shared across all four Fate warps. Since the character himself is free, every pull you spend here is pure vertical investment.

E 1
He Who Saw the Deep
King's Acknowledgement's DEF-ignore now applies to the entire team, it additionally raises Gilgamesh's ATK by 60%, and each Skill use regenerates a fixed 40 Energy. His strongest early eidolon by a wide margin — a teamwide DEF shred, a massive personal stat stick, and meaningful progress toward the 360-energy Ultimate, all in one node. If you spend anything on him, spend it here.
Best ValueTeamwide Upgrade
E 2
Wisdom That Encompassed All
Gains 5 Interest on entering combat and another 5 per Ultimate, dramatically shortening the ramp into Interest Piqued!, while Gate of Babylon's multipliers rise sharply. The community genuinely disagrees on this one. Game8 calls it his biggest single spike — the point where "main DPS Gilgamesh" becomes real. Icy Veins dissents, arguing E2 through E5 are skippable and only E1 and E6 truly matter. If you want him as a Saber support, E1 is the stopping point; if you want him carrying teams himself, E2 is where that build begins.

E 3
Journey That Spanned Far
Skill level +2 (max 15) and Basic ATK level +1 (max 10). A straightforward numbers bump to Gate of Babylon — welcome, since it eventually becomes his only button, but nothing structural changes here.
Incremental
E 4
King Who Bowed to None
Increases Gilgamesh's Energy Regeneration Rate by 20%. On a normal unit this would be filler; on a 360-cost Ultimate it visibly tightens the Enuma Elish cycle and can free his rope slot for pure ATK% with more confidence.
Solid Upgrade
E 5
Sword That Parted Gods from Man
Ultimate level +2 (max 15) and Talent level +2 (max 15). Raises Enuma Elish's multipliers and both talent scalings — the joint follow-up included — but again, purely incremental.
Incremental
E 6
Soul That Bore Friendship
Enuma Elish's bounce multiplier rises by 80%, the whole team gains +20% All-Type RES PEN while he is on the field, and ally Ultimates bank "Golden Rule" points that grant his next Ultimate up to +300% CRIT DMG. The ceiling node: single Ultimates start deleting endgame bosses outright. Strictly for collectors chasing the King's full treasury.

Major Traces

Epic's Opening
Ascension 2
Whenever another ally uses their Ultimate, Gilgamesh gains 2 bonus Interest and regenerates energy equal to 30% of the energy that ally just consumed. This is the mortgage on Enuma Elish: in Ultimate-heavy teams the 360-point bill gets paid substantially by everyone else's spending. The bigger your teammates' Ultimates, the richer the King gets.
Hero's Hauteur
Ascension 4
Every point of Interest Gilgamesh gains during battle raises his CRIT DMG by 25%, stacking up to +125%. Because Interest flows in constantly from ally actions, this ramps itself with zero input — a huge chunk of free CRIT DMG that is why his sheet target is a modest 120% and his boots stay ATK%.
Hegemon's Strife
Ascension 6
While Gilgamesh is on the field, all allies gain +20% ATK and +20% CRIT DMG, plus an additional +1% ATK and +1% CRIT DMG per point of their Max Energy above 140, capped at +100% each. His single most important trace — a permanent aura that turns high-energy allies like Saber into monsters. Unlock priority: A6 first, then A2, then A4.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes — genuinely free, not "free trial" free. The Fate Contract: Renewal event grants every player at Trailblaze Level 3 or above a permanent choice of Gilgamesh or Archer. The claim window opened on 2026-07-24 alongside the collab and remains open until shortly before Version 4.6 ends — currently listed as 2026-11-11. The bundle also includes enough ascension materials to reach Lv60 plus 600,000 credits, so he arrives ready to build. If you have not claimed yet, stop reading and go do it; guides can wait, limited-time windows cannot.
It depends entirely on your roster, and we will be honest about the trade-off. If you own or plan to pull Saber, take Gilgamesh — the joint follow-up, the energy refunds, and the A6 aura make him her irreplaceable partner. If you have neither duo assembled, Archer is the safer pick: Prydwen's assessment is that Archer plus Rin Tohsaka is the stronger of the two Fate duos, though "that is not to discredit what Gilgamesh brings to Saber's team." The pressure valve: both collab banners are open-ended with no end date, so whichever king you pass on can still be pulled later — the free claim just saves you the pity.
No — and this is the most common building mistake with him. His Interest mechanic grants +10% SPD per point of Interest, accumulated passively every time an ally acts, up to a full +100% SPD before Gate of Babylon cashes the stack out and the ramp begins again. Three separate sources are in consensus: run ATK% boots, skip Speed substats, and let the kit handle his action economy. He starts fights slow at 97 base SPD and accelerates into one of the fastest units on the field without a single Speed roll.
Yes. The joint follow-up stays locked without her, but everything else works: the SP-neutral Gate of Babylon, the roughly 1,400% ATK single-target Enuma Elish, and above all the A6 aura — up to +100% ATK and +100% CRIT DMG for allies scaling with their Max Energy. He slots well into follow-up teams with Ashveil and Mortenax Blade, and he has a unique interaction with the free Remembrance Trailblazer, whose Max-Energy-scaling True DMG buff his 360 pool instantly maxes. He earned his T0.5 rating as a general support DPS, not as a Saber accessory.
By taxing the rest of the team. His A2 trace, Epic's Opening, refunds him 30% of the energy each ally Ultimate consumes — so a team of big-Ultimate units is constantly paying tribute. Stack that with Huohuo's percentage-based energy refunds (which scale with his enormous pool), the signature light cone's Energy Regeneration Rate if you have it, an ERR rope if your substats allow the flex, and E1's flat 40 energy per Skill for invested accounts. In a properly built team Enuma Elish arrives far more often than the sticker price suggests — and each teammate Ultimate is simultaneously stacking King's Burden to make it hit up to 44% harder.
Rule one: never pull for the character — he is free. If you spend at all, E1 is the clear target: teamwide DEF-ignore, +60% ATK, and 40 energy per Skill. Beyond that, opinions split — Game8 calls E2 his biggest spike and the gateway to main-DPS Gilgamesh, while Icy Veins argues E2 through E5 are all skippable and only E1 and E6 matter; we lean toward stopping at E1 unless you specifically want him carrying. The signature cone is only about 7% ahead of the free On the Fall of an Aeon, and it is a more sensible target for dedicated Saber mains via the 200-pull collab selector than via direct pulls. His banner has no end date, so there is zero FOMO on any of this.
