No. Dr. Ratio performs well with Cruising in the Stellar Sea or In the Night at lower investment levels. Baptism of Pure Thought is a meaningful upgrade, especially for its DEF ignore on follow-up attacks after using the Ultimate, but it is not required to clear all endgame content at E0.
Dr. Ratio needs 3 debuffs on the target to guarantee his Talent follow-up attack (40% base + 20% per debuff = 100% at 3 debuffs). With his Inference trace, he self-applies an Effect RES reduction debuff via his Skill, so he only needs 2 additional debuffs from teammates. Building around Nihility supports or any characters that reliably apply debuffs is essential for consistent follow-up output.
Wiseman's Folly is a debuff applied by Dr. Ratio's Ultimate. When any ally attacks a target with Wiseman's Folly, Dr. Ratio launches a follow-up attack against that target. It can trigger up to 2 times per Ultimate use (3 at E6). This effectively turns every ally action into a potential Dr. Ratio follow-up, multiplying his damage output significantly during the windows after his Ultimate.
Dr. Ratio excels in Memory of Chaos and Apocalyptic Shadow where single-target boss damage is most valuable. He performs well in these modes with proper debuffer support. His strength diminishes in Pure Fiction where AoE units have a natural advantage. At A Tier, he is a solid and reliable carry for players who do not yet have the top-tier S-rank DPS units.
E1 and E2 are the most impactful. E1 gives immediate Summation stacks at battle start plus expanded stack cap, providing passive CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG. E2 adds bonus Imaginary DMG for every debuff on the target during follow-up attacks, a huge amplification when consistently hitting enemies with 3 or more debuffs. E6 dramatically raises his ceiling with a 50% follow-up DMG increase and an extra Wiseman's Folly trigger.
