No. Aventurine is fully functional with Moment of Victory, which is one of the strongest Preservation cones in the game. Inherently Unjust Destiny is a meaningful upgrade in shield strength and overall damage, but Moment of Victory is so strong that the gap is smaller than for most character signatures. Run either one confidently in all endgame content.
Aim for at least 4000 DEF. At 4000 DEF, the Leverage trace provides close to its maximum +48% CRIT Rate bonus (calculated as (4000 - 1600) / 100 * 2% = 48%). Higher DEF above 4000 still improves shield values but yields diminishing CRIT Rate gains. Prioritize DEF% on Body, Feet, Sphere, and Rope main stats to reach this threshold.
Blind Bet is Aventurine's passive energy system. He gains 1 point when any ally with Fortified Wager is attacked, 1 point when he himself is attacked, and up to 3 points per turn when allies with shields use follow-up attacks (from the Bingo! trace). His Ultimate randomly grants 1 to 7 additional points. At 7 points, he consumes them and instantly launches a 7-hit follow-up attack. The cap is 10 points, so excess points carry over toward the next follow-up.
Broken Keel is the default best-in-slot because the team-wide +10% CRIT DMG bonus is unconditional once Aventurine hits 30% Effect RES, which his Talent almost guarantees.
