Sweat Now, Cry Less from the Battle Pass is a strong alternative. If you have neither, Time Waits for No One from the permanent pool covers her HP scaling needs reasonably well. Her team-building is F2P friendly even if the Light Cone is a premium purchase.
For every 1 point of HP lost by any ally, Castorice gains 1 point of Newbud. The maximum Newbud limit scales based on the levels of all characters on the battlefield. When Newbud reaches its maximum, Castorice can activate her Ultimate (Doomshriek, Dawn's Chime) to summon Netherwing. The primary Newbud sources are: Castorice's Skill consuming 30% of all allies' HP, heals converting to Newbud via the Ascension 2 trace, and the Technique providing 30% Newbud at the start of a fight.
The Poet of Mourning Collapse relic set, Castorice's best-in-slot, has a condition where going above a certain Speed threshold causes it to lose effectiveness. The recommended target is to keep Speed below 95. This means actively avoiding Speed substats on relics and not running any Speed main stats on Feet. Castorice compensates for her low base Speed (95) through Netherwing's independent high SPD of 165 and the Inverted Torch trace bonus.
While Netherwing is on the battlefield, the Mooncocoon Shrouds the Form passive activates: when allies take DMG or consume HP, their current HP can only be reduced to a minimum of 1. After that threshold, Netherwing absorbs any further damage at 500% of the original value, consuming its own HP until it disappears. This means you can aggressively use Castorice's HP-consuming Skill during Netherwing's presence with zero risk of killing your allies.
Gallagher is the top F2P healer since his healing through Besotted is skill-point neutral and his Enhanced Basic ATK provides burst healing when needed. Among limited 5-stars, Huohuo provides energy restoration and consistent AoE healing. Lingsha is excellent if you have Sunday. Sunday can redirect his action advance to Lingsha's summon, keeping the party alive through off-turn follow-up heals. Avoid healers that require many Skill Points, as Castorice herself needs them for her Skill rotations.
E1 provides a meaningful DMG multiplier against enemies below 80% and 50% HP thresholds, which reliably activates in endgame fights. E2 is the most impactful eidolon: it generates Ardent Will stacks that eliminate HP costs on Netherwing's Breath attacks and advance Castorice's own action, significantly compressing her rotation. E6 adds 3 extra Wings Sweep bounces and 20% Quantum RES PEN, representing the largest raw damage jump. E1 and E2 offer the best value for players who want to invest beyond E0.
