No. Archer performs well with Cruising in the Stellar Sea (F2P) or Baptism of Pure Thought as alternatives. His signature, The Hell Where Ideals Burn, is a meaningful upgrade that scales with his Skill-heavy playstyle, but he can clear all endgame content at E0 without it.
When Archer uses his Skill, he enters Circuit Connection and his turn does not end. He can then keep using his Skill (spending 1 SP per use) for up to 5 consecutive hits. Each additional Skill use within the loop increases his Skill DMG by 60% (stackable up to 2 times, or 3 at E6). He exits the state after 5 uses, when SP runs out, or when all enemies in a wave are defeated.
Each Circuit Connection loop consumes up to 5 Skill Points. Without a reliable SP source, Archer will frequently find himself locked out of full loops, dramatically reducing his damage. Sparkle is the best option as she both generates SP and advances Archer's turn. Hanya and Remembrance Trailblazer are accessible F2P alternatives. Avoid SP-hungry sustains like Bailu or Luocha in his teams.
His Genius of Brilliant Stars set bonus for DEF-ignore only applies to Quantum-weak targets. Against non-Quantum-weak enemies, his Genius set loses part of its value. Pair Archer with Silver Wolf (who implants Quantum Weakness) or use Pioneer Diver of Dead Waters instead for universal effectiveness. At E2, his Ultimate self-applies Quantum Weakness and 20% Quantum RES reduction, making this concern largely irrelevant.
Use Ultimate as often as possible. It deals massive Quantum DMG (600–1000% ATK) and loads 2 Charges for Follow-up ATKs via the Talent. Ideally cast it before entering a Circuit Connection loop so the Charge pool is replenished and Follow-ups fire throughout the loop. The Technique also provides 1 free Charge at battle start, so a pre-combat Technique followed by an early Ultimate is the optimal opening sequence.
E1 and E2 are the most impactful. E1 recovers SP mid-loop after 3 Skill uses, directly extending Circuit Connection without support. E2 is the best stopping point for spenders: his Ultimate now applies Quantum Weakness and 20% Quantum RES reduction, removing the need for Silver Wolf and freeing your team composition significantly. E4 grants +150% Ultimate DMG, a large number on an already massive hit. E6 is a comprehensive upgrade but costs 6 limited 5-star copies.
